how about a getting started tips section? or a reach out section im in leavenworth ks and would love to get my whole school district active in the program. I have had a meeting with the jrhigh vp using my sons elementary school as a feeder program sounds like this is going to be big. we have not had our pizza night but have had lots of positive remarks!
Hey Blastermen: I think you just need to do your own thing close your eyes and jump.It will all work out fine I did it....Pack Leader..T.B.
Get with your school principal one on one. I started with the school district and did not get much interest because the program was new to the district. Order the starter kit which includes a DVD presentation which can be shown at the Pizza Night event. In Texas the schools have title monies for drug free schools, etc... that can be accessed to pay for the kit. CiCi's always gives us a good deal on the Pizza's (usually $5 for every two large pizzas and we get the local grocers, hospitals, etc.. to donate bottles of water for the event. We are in our second year of the program and word of mouth from the dads works great. We have some individual dads showing up 15 days a year or more. Get any Dad to show up once and you'll have all the marketing support you will need going forward as most will sign up for another day having done it once. As pack leader stated just jump in... It will take care of itself with just a tad bit of planning. The support from the Watch D.O.G.S. team is exceptional and the information they send will walk you through the start up process flawlessly. I've done two successful pizza nights with the help of the school principal and it's not as daunting as it may seem. Don't overthink it as the other dads really want to do this and you are simply opening up the door...
Your home page says that this program is a K-12 program. The links to news articles are mostly about programs in elementary schools. I'm curious to know more about any high school programs and how successful they are. Any more info? Thanks!
I would like to suggest that the company get different things to purchase...IE: WE would like to buy stuffed mascot guys to give to our students for their b-days if they were available, Balloons, Lanyards, more promo items dealing with the mascot..We would be interested in buying a costume of the mascot(again if available)and I think the cost of the shirts for the kids are too much..as a school that is trying to promote the program we can't make any extra money on shirt sales so is anyone else thinking of these things??
I would like to see New Topic for keeping the program full. We are on our second year and the number of "dads" is droping off. Any tips would be great.
in response to nd2no,
Thanks for your request for more video and print references to schools other than elementary. I am in the processes of organizing and posting more material. The amount of media recently has been wonderfully overwhelming and I look forward to making it available for all of you. Samuel, Program Developer
In response to "Dog in Antelope", hey thanks for your suggestion. I think that is a great idea about tips to keep the program full. In short, the implementation guide is a valuable resource to follow step by step for a successful program. The strongest points are to have two launch events per year. Have a "pizza night" in the fall as soon as school starts and then have a "doughnuts with dad's" for the second semester in January. You are going to have normal atrophy of dads as their kids move up in grades. The launch events create and keep the momentum going.
